April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. In efforts to take a stand against Child Abuse and help raise awareness, please join DePelchin at the Sterling Municipal Library on April 11th to cut and tie blue ribbons. Volunteers will be asked to cut ribbon and create stacks of ribbons to be placed in the library. Ribbons will be for community members to tie onto trees throughout the month of April. During this event, Volunteers will also be asked to join in tying ribbons on the trees located at front of the library. In 2021, in Harris County 7,405 children where victims of child abuse and neglect. Each ribbon tied to a branch will represent a child who was a victim of child abuse and neglect. In addition to cutting and tying ribbons, Volunteers will be asked to assemble bags with Child Abuse Prevention outreach materials to share with community members and GCCISD school support staff.

Inclement Weather Plan: The ribbon cutting portion of the volunteer event will take place indoors in the Sterling Library's Innovation Room. In the event of inclement weather, pre-cut ribbons will be available in a designated location in the library to allow supporters and community members to show their support and tie ribbons to trees at their availability. Ribbons will be available throughout the month of April or until all the ribbons have been tied.
