Volunteer Opportunities From: United Way of Greater Baytown Area and Chambers County

Join us as we prepare 4 3x5 foot vegetable garden beds for our Seeds of Promise Learning Community Garden.

We will build the beds, line them with wire & weed barrier cloth and add the dirt. Volunteers can help with refreshments as well. Our garden is used throughout several 12-week classes each year to teach Baytown households about growing their own food.

Many families choose not to eat healthy fruits & vegetables because of the cost and not having tried them before. We help them explore new foods and learn how to supplement a diet with healthier foods. They also learn about getting stress relief by tending our community garden and their own.

While building the beds, volunteers will learn how to mix our best vegetable soil recipe to help their plants grow healthy. We will provide you with a copy of the recipe to take home, use and share. You may find that you will want to come back more often to help with our garden and classes! 

Each summer our Fred Aguilar Promise Center, located across the street from Robert E Lee High School (next door to the Wetlands Center), hosts a free 8 day (Mon-Thur) camp for 25 children who would normally never have an opportunity to attend and experience a summer camp. Attending children range in ages from 5-12 years old. 

Our 2026 Kids Camp will be held during the dates of July 13th - 23rd. 

Children attend the camp form 11:45 am - 3 pm. Thursday the 23rd is the end of camp BBQ and is a hot dog BBQ party from 12 - 2 pm from  

*  Volunteers choose which days to commit to over the 8 days. (8th day is the BBQ party). 

 

*  Volunteers must be there from 10:30 am - 3:45 pm of each day that they commit to help, including the final day for the BBQ.

* Please submit your volunteer form by June 30th so that you have time to attend our 2 hour orientation on July 9th 5-7 pm or 10th 11 am-1 pm. During orientation we will share volunteer rules while assisting at camp and information on the activities you will help the children do during camp.

* Volunteers will receive a camp t-shirt.

Over 7 fun-filled days, children will explore ways to be more physically, mentally & emotionally healthy while learning how to explore and work on activities with new friends.

Once you have filled out this initial form, someone from our organization will contact you by email, phone call or text message to confirm that we have received your information and to discuss camp dates you'll be able to commit to.

Volunteers ARE Super Heroes!

If you want to experience what it's like to be a Super Hero, join us at our CAPE Club after school program. CAPE Club is Child and Parent Education activities and is from September - May each school year.  

✨ Volunteers help on a regular basis (weekly or monthly) assisting child & parent (under our guidance) with learning stations (Art, Music, Reading, Math, Science). Volunteers should commit to a minimum of 1 time per month. Once your approved you will be able to sign up for specific dates on Tuesdays and Thursdays that you are available on.
